On the harder of the two knowledges

We are unusually good at reading other people. We can name a friend's blind spot in a sentence, and be entirely wrong about our own for a decade.
The line is not a ranking of virtues but an observation about difficulty. Others can be watched from outside. You cannot step outside yourself to look — which is why self-knowledge arrives slowly, and almost always through what you actually did rather than what you meant.
